For whom?

The course is aimed at those who work with documents for publication on digital platforms and websites and who produce accessible documents and PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro. And for those who perform quality reviews and post-processing of PDF documents from Adobe InDesign and Microsoft 365.

To get the most out of this course, we recommend that you first take the Introduction to creating accessible documents course.

About the course

During the course, we will take a deep dive into Adobe Acrobat Pro to create fully accessible PDF files. Funka trainers are ready to help you fulfil the requirements of the Web Accessibility Directive and take control of your PDFs.

After completing the course, you should be able to tag PDFs from scratch or edit and post-process PDFs created in InDesign or Microsoft 365. Then test the accessibility of the documents against standards using both automated accessibility checks and assistive technologies. You will also be able to work with complex forms and tables to reach the right standards.

  • Optimising infographics and other complex images.
  • Tables: from simple to complex.
  • Linking techniques.
  • Tables of contents, bookmarks and page numbering.
  • Language management.
  • Footnotes and endnotes.
  • Scanned documents.
  • Accessibility control and quality testing.

After completing this course

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Apply correct tagging to all content in PDF documents to ensure accessibility and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Organize headings in a logical structure to facilitate navigation and comprehension for users, including those using screen readers.
  • Add descriptive alternative texts to all images and graphics to make visual content accessible to screen readers.
  • Verify that all links in the PDF are clickable and functional, enhancing navigation and user experience.
  • Tag table headers correctly and maintain a logical table structure to make tables easily navigable and understandable by screen readers.
  • Design and implement fillable forms within PDF documents to ensure they are accessible and usable by all users, including those with disabilities.
  • Conduct user tests at different stages of document creation to ensure accessibility and usability for diverse user groups.

The course consists of two parts; a recorded course followed by a teacher-led one-day live session.
