About the project
Users with disabilities know the most about how important accessibility is – and what inaccessibility means. End users also have the power to make websites and mobile apps more accessible, by providing constructive feedback. This is the idea behind the EU-funded UPowerWAD project.
UPowerWAD stands for: Users Power the Web Accessibility Directive.
Public sector websites and apps across Europe should and need to be accessible to everyone. It’s an important aspect of inclusion that information is equally accessible to everyone. The Web Accessibility Directive (WAD) has been in force across the EU since 2016 with the goal to provide people with disabilities with better access to websites and mobile apps of public services.
Despite the implementation of the WAD, many public sector websites and apps are still not accessible, and website owners may not even be aware of the issues. According to research, far too many end users are still not aware about their right to provide feedback. This project aims to bridge that gap.
