Working with dyslexia - a new exciting project
Along with The Swedish Association of persons with Dyslexia and a number of trade unions, Funka will join a project aiming to examine how persons with dyslexia handle their work situation.
How do health care workers, truck drivers and industrial workers with dyslexia and dyscalculia handle situations when they have to read, write and handle numbers at work? Do these target groups experience specific problems in the workplace? Are there solutions others can learn from? These are some of the questions the project will try to cover.
The development of technology in the workplace creates both opportunities and challenges, but there is no overall picture of the situation for persons with various kinds of difficulties to handle text and numbers.
The project will aim to:
- Find out how reading, writing and numerical processing is done in today's workplace to identify requirements and opportunities it brings to different professions.
- Compile knowledge of the situation and develop an action plan on literacy and numeric processing into the working life.
- Disseminate information about the project results to relevant stakeholders
- Join researchers, experts and representatives of authorities on conferences where the topic will be illuminated from different angles.
- Influence politicians and policymakers.
- Disseminate positive examples of how to improve the opportunities for persons with dyslexia and dyscalculia, so that more people can come out to work and keep their jobs when conditions change.
