Finally, all informational videos on the European standard of accessibility requirements for public procurement of ICT products and services are ready. With funding from Microsoft, Funka has produced videos that explain the standard for developers and purchasers.
As of January 1, 2017 procurement regulations for accessibility are tightened in all EU countries. That means that procurers and suppliers alike must know what it is all about. This series of videos is an attempt to make a the EN301549 a bit easier to understand.
I knew about the WCAG a little from before, but when I watched the video, I got a much better understanding of what the guidelines actually mean, says Tobias Nyholm, Lead Developer on Happyr. It feels like an important thing to make requirements understandable to others.
EN301549 was created on a mandate from the European Commission and contains minimum requirements for accessibility in public procurement. When the procurement legislation moves from "should" to "shall", the standard will be important. It covers all ICT, not only the web, which means that it is relevant in many different contexts.
Public sector procurement plays an important role in implementation, because of its large purchases. Many vendors want to sell to the public sector, with a common European standard, our society can become more inclusive.
Funka also offers training in EN301549, for both procurers and suppliers.
