Funka is often been assigned to positions of trust of strategic and normative importance, at a national and European level. Our excellence, long practical experience and our close relationship with the disability organisations ensures that we can further the development with constructive solutions and innovative suggestions.

  • Funka takes a look at accessible reading

    What do you need to be able to read? In a new government assignment, Funka is studying accessible reading. What is it, who uses it, and who is responsible for it?

  • New interesting investigation about cognitive accessibility in digital interfaces

    How much does the research community know about cognitive accessibility online? What gaps are there in current regulations for web accessibility when it comes to meeting the needs of people with cognitive impairments? Together with the consulting firm ICF, Funka has been asked by the European Commission to investigate cognitive accessibility on the web.

  • New Funka report on TV accessibility

    In a new report, Funka looks at how TV broadcasts can be made accessible for viewers with disabilities. The report will be used by the Swedish Press and Broadcasting Authority to create new accessibility requirements for commercial television.

  • Funka in a new strategic assignment: Review of the Web Accessibility Directive

    How does the European accessibility regulations work – should something change? That is what Funka is going to investigate, on behalf of the European Commission.

  • Study on Universal Design of ICT in Ireland

    What does the fast Irish IT-sector know about universal design and accessibility? What would they need to learn to support increased accessibility? Those are questions Funka has studied on behalf of the Irish National Disability Authority.

  • Investigation of digital tools for increased citizen dialogue

    Funka will investigate how digital tools can be used for citizen engagement in Norwegian municipalities. It is the Norwegian Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation who gave us the assignment.

  • Irish research assignment on certification possibilities in universal design

    On behalf of the National Disability Authority in Ireland, Funka will investigate possibilities for certification in universal design for Irish IT professionals.

  • Funka awarded strategic assignment for the Finnish government

    To support the Ministry of Finance in transposing the European Web Accessibility Directive into Finnish legislation, Funka has been assigned to make a comparative study of ongoing efforts.

  • Norway monitors accessibility of ATMs and vending machines

    The Norwegian discrimination and accessibility legislation covers not only websites but also all sorts of kiosks. The government starts monitoring ATMs and vending machines and at the same time the guidelines with text and illustrations, which Funka has developed on behalf of the supervision authority Difi, are published.

  • Funka in Web Accessibility Directive Expert Group

    In order to give the EU Commission support during the transitional period when Member States are to harmonize their national legislation on web accessibility to comply with new EU regulations, an expert group has been appointed. Funka's Susanna Laurin is one of the experts chosen for the assignment.

  • Norway investigates extension of anti-discrimination legislation

    On behalf of the Norwegian Agency for Public Management and eGovernment, Difi, Funka and Oslo Economics have investigated the effects of including education into the anti-discrimination legislation on accessible ICT.

  • Funka investigates technology for text-to-speech

    The Swedish Press and Broadcasting Authority has tasked Funka with surveying what technical solutions there are on the market for text-to-speech functionality for television broadcasts. We will also survey how users experience the different solutions and what costs they incur.

  • Funka appointed as G3ict/IAAP joint Representative to the European Union

    The leading organisations for global development of ICT accessibility moves on. Funka will support the coordination in the EU.

  • Funka investigates digital barriers in Norway

    The Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs has assigned Funka and Implement Consulting Group to survey digital barriers for persons with disabilities in the Norwegian labour market, and come up with proposals for solutions.

  • New take to examine web accessibility at EU-level

    On behalf of the Irish National Disability Authority, Funka has performed a large study on web accessibility in seven European countries. The study was made during Irelands chairmanship of the EU, but has been published recently.

  • Funka develops recommendations for a monitoring methodology on web accessibility for the European Commission

    On behalf of the European Commission, Funka is developing recommendations for a monitoring methodology for web accessibility. The aim is to have a common method across Europe if and when legislation comes true.

  • Funka acts as experts to interpret the Norwegian Discrimination and Accessibility Act

    Funka was assigned to act as experts by the Norwegian Equality and Anti-discrimination Ombudsman when for the first time someone filed a charge that a web solution breached the Norwegian Discrimination and Accessibility Act.

  • European Commission publishes Funka's study on web accessibility

    The extensive assignment Funka has done on behalf of the European Commission, to develop methodology and indicators and performing the actual tests of websites on e-accessibility in all EU member states plus Norway,

  • Situation analysis on how services of public sector websites in Sweden comply with WCAG 2.0 AA

    Funka has on behalf of, and with funding from, the Swedish Government’s Userforum, conducted a situation analysis on how services of public sector websites comply with WCAG 2.0. This is for the Swedish government to be able to assess how Sweden

  • Difi chooses Funka to develop guidelines

    For the Norwegian authority Difi, with responsibility for information accessibility, Funka has developed the contents of a web page with guidance texts, illustrations, examples and checklists to help purchasers, developers and site owners to comply with the regulation on accessibility in ICT. Funka was also responsible for the preparation and scope. The first round was conducted on direct request from Difi.

  • Difi chooses Funka to develop indicators

  • Measuring Progress of e-Accessibility in Europe

    Funka has been assigned to collect data and act as technical expert in the field of digital information accessibility in Sweden during 2010 and 2011, in a project funded by the European Commission.

  • Accessibility in social media

    Funka held a seminar and presented a study on the accessibility in social media. The study, consisting of surveys and user testing, is funded by the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency. It has been supplemented with survey questions to Swedish authorities

  • Funka’s translation of WCAG 2.0 on behalf of W3C

    On behalf of the W3C and with funding from the Internet Infrastructure Foundation, responsible for the Swedish top-level domain .SE, Funka has completed an authorised translation of WCAG 2.0 into Swedish. In the reference group there were representatives

  • Funka trains IT suppliers

    Funka has been assigned by the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency to develop, conduct and document a series of training sessions in accessibility for IT suppliers. In part it is a foundation course for everyone involved in IT delivery for the public

  • Funka examines online banks

    On behalf of the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency, Funka has examined and tested the five major Swedish banks from an accessibility perspective. In the examination we have tested the login procedure and to perform banking services,

  • What economic effects does accessibility work provide in the EU member states?

    On behalf of the EC, Funka has acted as a national expert in Sweden to produce a cost-benefit analysis on working with web accessibility. The assignment includes, if it’s possible, to demonstrate examples on how websites are used before and after efforts have been made regarding accessibility.

  • Political parties excludes persons with disabilities

    Before the general election, Funka has conducted a review of accessibility on websites of Sweden’s main political parties. The parties are a long way from meeting the requirements; only two of them even comply with half the tests we’ve performed. Funka’s review has generated quite a lot of media attention.

  • Accessibility review of parliamentary parties’ websites

    Funka has, on our own initiative, conducted reviews of websites of Sweden’s main political parties. Especially during election years these reviews tend to generate media attention. In the election year of 2010, we find that not much positive has happened since we completed our last survey.

  • Inaccessible PDFs

    Funka has, on our own initiative, conducted a audit on how seven Swedish public authorities are using the Pdf-format. Many still publish inaccessible pdf-files, despite having a reasonably accessible website. This is a democratic problem since the information in the pdf-files often is important. The authorities we investigated are: the Government Offices of Sweden, the Swedish Parliament, the Swedish Public Employment Service, the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, The Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Swedish Tax Agency, and the National Board of Student Aid.
